French designer Marion Hanania founded the company in 2011 after seeing fast fashion’s environmental and animal welfare impacts while working as a freelance artist. Marion responded by creating the first 100% vegan shoe brand from France.
Price
Good Guys Don’t Wear Leather footwear prices start at $116.90 for the women’s cross-strap sandals up to $258.90 for the unisex dealer boots.
Animal rights
Good Guys is a vegan-forward company—meaning that they’re not trying to hide that they’re a business that seeks to avoid animal suffering as much as is practical.
In their own words, “Through “Good Guys,” Marion aims to create the perfect “Cruelty-free” closet, where no animal product is involved.”
As a vegan customer, you don’t need to wonder if some of the range isn’t vegan or if they use animal-derived glues. And if that wasn’t enough, Good Guys has PETA-Approved Vegan certification.
Human rights
As a vegan-owned company, Good Guys takes human rights seriously. They guarantee fair-trade working conditions for workers and are “made in Europe.”
Good Guys shoes have partnered with manufacturers in Portugal, Spain, and Italy that share the brand’s commitment to animal-free and environmentally friendly practices.
We love super transparent brands. Good Guys have a dedicated page on their website that tells you exactly where their shoes are made and by whom.
Materials
We love it when a shoe brand is proud of its materials, and Good Guys is a shining example—creating a prominent materials page.
APPLESKIN
Good Guys was one of the first brands to use APPLESKIN—a breakthrough material made from apple waste.
They discovered this incredible material during the Future Fabrics Exhibition in London and have used it in some of their shoes ever since.
APPLESKIN is made from organic wastes from the apple juice industry in Bolzano (Italy). According to Good Guys, the carbon footprint of polyurethane (foam) is 5,28Kg CO2 eq/Kg PU; in comparison, recovered waste has Zero impact. Therefore, every Kg of apple residuals used to substitute PU means 5,28Kg of CO2 saved.
The material is also biodegradable, so when you’re done with your shoes, they won’t be taking up space in a landfill for centuries.
Recycled materials
In addition to using innovative sustainable materials like APPLESKIN, Good Guys also incorporates recycled materials into their shoes.
For example, the lining of their shoes is made from a plant-based microfiber made from corn glucose and V-label (vegan certified).
The corn glucose is extracted from the plant and fermented to pass from sugar to monomer, then to a polymer to obtain the fibbers with a non-woven technology. This material is 100% recycled and recyclable.
It’s also Oekotex Standard 100 Class approved, which means it’s free of harmful chemicals.
Vegan leather
Good Guys also uses vegan leather made from polyurethane (PU). While this isn’t a sustainable material, it is an animal-free alternative to animal leather.
Polyurethane is a type of plastic often used as a leather alternative. It’s generally considered to be more environmentally friendly than PVC because it’s more durable and doesn’t require the use of harmful chemicals in its production.
However, PU is still a petroleum-based product, so it’s not as sustainable as other materials on this list.

We also appreciate that they have a page about how to clean your shoes so that you can prolong the life of your purchase.
What could be better?
While we appreciate Good Guys’ strides in sustainable shoe production, there are a few areas where they could improve.
For starters, seeing more sustainable materials in their shoes would be great. As it stands, most of their shoes are made from PU, which is a petroleum-based product.
It would also be nice to see more vegan shoe options for kids. The brand doesn’t offer any vegan shoes specifically for children.
Despite these setbacks, Good Guys is an excellent choice for vegan and sustainable shoes. Their materials are good quality, and they offer free shipping worldwide.
